A Composite Marble Head of the Sperlonga Odysseus

After the Antique, 20th Century


Height overall 23 inches.


This lot is located in Chicago.

Condition
Height of bust (excluding mount) 14 inches. In overall good and stable condition with dark coloration to the surface and in crevices from dirt and grime. Any portions lacking, including the tip of the figure's nose, has a dull edge evidencing age or initial intent and no evidence of new or fresh breaks are apparent. The surface is textured throughout with some pitting. A network of cracks are exhibited on the figure's right cheek, one of these stretching through his mouth, across his right cheek, just under his right ear and to the edge of his hair. Exhibiting additional cracks to the back and right side of his neck. His hair piece with hairline cracks and two spots of bruised loss. Having some white deposit to the marks on his head and his cheek, as well as smaller minor spots throughout. Additional images available upon request.
